Cult Beauty product review: Dr. Alkaitis Organic Nourishing Treatment Oil

Dr. Alkaitis Nourshing Treatment Oil

With a strapline like 'Theraputic Skin Food', we were always going to be fans of the Dr. Alkaitis skincare. After a couple of meetings with the good doctor himself and several trials of the products since our introduction to them in 2007, my skin has just become clearer and clearer. I now use the Dr. Alkaitis Organic Nourishing Treatment Oil along with Sophyto Polyphenol Drops, Sophyto Mega Serum, Kirsty Mcleod Exfoliator and I alternate between Saaf Organic Pure Cleanser and Sjal Balans cleanser right now (although I used to use Neal's Yard Wild Rose Beauty Balm) and I regularly walk around London without a stroke of makeup and my skin looks good.

The Organic Nourishing Treatment Oil and Facial Oil are superb moisturisers. I apply mine to damp skin right after the shower. The ingredients list reads like it comes from my spice cabinet rather than some far away lab somewhere. The scent is very light yet somewhat floral/aromatheraputic and is certainly good for both men and women to use. The oil itself is an orangey colour and absorbs very quickly into the skin and, after a few minutes of deep massage with my finger tips, leaves it rosy and looking very healthy. The oil also seems to help my skin heal faster. I am a master spot picker and in a country with little sunshine, I often have spots that don't heal very quicky. However, when using this they seem to disappear more rapidly and leave less of a mark on my face after they've gone.
I regularly mix a variety of oils and use them on my face and body, but this oil is always the base. It's great for dry, winter skin... after sun care, to help heal and rejuvenate skin and works as a lovely massage oil, hair treatment oil and for eczema.

Ingredients: Into a base of virgin cold pressed organic oils (organic Jojoba*, St. John's Wort* and Andean Mountain Rose Hip seed* oils), the following organic and wild-crafted herbals are blended: Indian Madder°, Country Sarsaparilla°, Amazon root* and Liquorice*. Country Mallow°, Turmeric*, China root°, Costus°, and White Sandalwood°. Cuscus Grass°, Olive*, Eagle Wood°, Nut Grass°, Bermuda Grass° and Ashwagandha°. Also vitamin E complex (D- alpha, beta, gamma and delta tocopherols) and 100% pure Essential Oils.

If there is a single body oil and a single facial oil that both deserve to win awards this year, these two are it... we see big things for Dr. Alkaitis in 2008.

* - Signifies certified organically grown.
° - Signifies ethically wild-crafted.

I'm right into my oils right now. I swear by my A'kin Rosehip oil, but wouldn't mind looking into Dr Alkaitis.

Facial oil is the best! Seriously. Since last year, I've stopped using creams and my skin looks so much better for it. I'll send you contact info for Dr. Alkaitis. They're a good sort. The other facial oils I like are made by: Saaf, Ila, Neal's Yard and Trilogy. I mix a drop or two of each (minus Ila, which I don't have righ tnow) every day and night and massage into my face, neck and chest... and, not suprisingly, my skin is way more normal now and doesn't break out into an oil slick the way it always used to when I used oil-free products.

Cool, thanks! I love the pick-n-mix approach to using oils. I'm also researching cleansing oils at the moment. After being a dedicated gel cleanser girl for a long time (Simple, Dermalogica), I didn't LOVE the idea, but had really good results. xx

p.s. I tagged you on Wee Birdy, if you want to play.

Pick and mix is so the best. It is hard to go to oil... think about all the years we were told it was evil!

I'm doing my list now. Thanks for tagging me!
