Tried and tested: Reiki to Music

Hands-on rebalancing to music at London’s esteemed Hale Clinic is a blissful way to escape the white noise says Julia Rebaudo.

I love a bit of Reiki. To all you sceptics out there let me tell you there is nothing more emotionally healing than the soothing touch of a Reiki Master’s energised hands. Sounds weird I know, but it’s an incredibly calming and self-focussing experience that can alleviate tumultuous emotions as well as concentrate on specific physical ailments.

So, I was intrigued to hear about Jaime Tanna’s Healing Through Reiki and Sacred Sound treatment at the Hale Clinic. The lovely Jaime – an extremely radiant and healthy-looking escapee from the rat-race world of advertising – combines Reiki with gentle chanting, tones and drumming.

After a quick consultation, to identify any emotional or health issues, Jaime lay me down on the treatment bed (no need to remove any clothing apart from shoes and socks for a closing oil anointment on your feet) and started with a simple prayer. Then I felt his hands resting on my head. “Just go with any strange sounds you hear!” he advised. Said strange sounds included resonant harmonic tones and soft chanting and most wonderfully, soothing drumming from a hand-held drum as the Reiki treatment progressed to my belly, knees and feet.

The idea is that the vibration of sound close to your body aids healing. And I must say, the deep harmonic tones and drumming resonated in my body in an incredibly warming, soothing and all-encompassing way.

Having had Reiki before, it’s possible I’m quite responsive to this type of treatment, but I found the whole experience really powerful. Immediately afterwards I felt emotionally reassured and cleansed, but more importantly, the impact extended to a few days later when I found myself feeling super-balanced and clear in myself. This treatment is ideal for anyone who has an overload of emotional drama in their lives! And if you don’t think you qualify… trust me, you do.
